What is Gyan Mudra:
The term “Gyan” translates to “Knowledge” in English. Many individuals assert that this mudra enhances both knowledge and energy in human beings. Historically, it has been practiced by prominent Indian spiritual leaders such as Guru Nanak Dev, Buddha, and Osho. In this mudra, the thumb represents Fire while the index finger signifies Air, leading to its classification in Ayurveda as Vaayu-Vardhak Mudra. However, the reality of this practice is more nuanced.
In Gyan Mudra, the tips of the thumb and index finger touch each other.
Causes and Results:
The base of the index finger corresponds to the Mount of Jupiter, which symbolizes the Guru, Teacher, and Source of Light.
When the thumb and index finger are joined, they form the shape of zero, which is also how the Earth is represented.
The total energy in the universe can be conceptualized as zero.
Two types of energy exist within objects: Negative Energy and Positive Energy.
In the human body, energy functions in the form of chakras.
The upper chakra associated with the mind is the Crown Chakra, while the lower chakra is the Root Chakra.
This implies a control over the energy cycle that exists between the Crown and Root Chakras.
How to Perform Gyan Mudra
To execute the Gyan Mudra, begin by sitting in a comfortable position. Ensure that your spine is upright. Place both arms resting on your thighs, extending toward your knees, with your elbows positioned at the edge of your knees. Next, fold your index fingers and allow your thumbs to touch, ensuring that there is no pressure between the tips of the index fingers and thumbs. After achieving this posture, close your eyes and concentrate on your breathing. Aim to maintain a calm state for a duration of 2 to 5 minutes. After two weeks, you may enhance this practice and increase the duration of your meditation.
